Police Chief: Lewis Sutherland

The mission statement of the Kensington Police Department is:

“to foster a peaceful environment in the Town of Kensington through communication, visibility, prevention and effective enforcement of laws.”

The department consists of a Police Chief, Corporal, one full time constable, and one part time constable. The department also employs three full time and two part time communication technicians.

Police Chaplain

The Kensington Police Service currently employs the services of a volunteer Police Chaplain. The Police Chaplain serves to enhance the overall goals, integrity and professionalism of the service. The chaplaincy program is semi-formal program. The Police Chaplain serves members of the Kensington Police Service and, in the course of their duties, clients of the Police Service. He/she may do 'ride-a-longs' with officers, offer counselling when requested, pastoral visiting associated with the Police Service, assist officers with death notifications or other traumatic events, assist with Critical Incident Stress Management debriefings and generally provide opportunities for personal and professional health and growth within the Service. The Chaplaincy program demonstrates that policing is more than complaint-driven response by officers and that an integrated approach is being taken in this community. The Police Chaplain is appointed by the Chief of Police and enjoys selected privileges as a non- sworn volunteer member of the Kensington Police Service. Reverend Al Meloche is the current Kensington Police Service Chaplain.
