The Kensington & Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Business Awards of Excellence, these presented awards are to applaud the companies and individuals who excel in a given category. The Awards are given to those who have demonstrated exceptional accomplishment in business; committed to excellence in their field of endeavour and are dedicated supporters of community programs.

Award Categories

Large Business of the Year - 10 or more employees

Small Business of the Year - Up to 10 employees

Open to every business operating within Kensington & Area – Business is required to have been in service for no less than 3 years.

New Business of the Year – The nominee must be an active business located or operating in Kensington or area for two years or less.

Judging Criteria for small, large and new business

These awards will identify a local business that demonstrates notable achievement in one or all of the following criteria:

  • Attained a respected position within its trade or industry
  • Achieved success in such areas as exports, market expansion, product development, growth and/or retention of sales
  • Used ingenuity and originality in its marketing approach
  • The employer and employees participate in and/or support community activities
  • The business has a strong focus on purchasing locally
  • Fosters positive employee relations
  • Other significant achievements

Website of Excellence Award
This award recognizes a website that is unique and provides easy but efficient communication to the business in which it serves.

Employee of the Year
This award recognizes a specific employee who has made an exceptional contribution to a business and employer.

Judging Criteria for employee of the year

Judges will identify one or all of the following:

  • Exemplary customer service
  • Consistently eager to perform above and beyond what is expected
  • Initiates strategies or procedures that are instrumental in improving the efficiency, or work environment of a business and enhancing its reputation
  • Nominations have to be completed by a business owner, senior manager or supervisor and we encourage letters of support from clients, co-worker, general public or others serviced by the business

Important for you to know

  • Remember the judges do not know the person or business being nominated and rely on the information provided to make their decision. Please submit as much information as possible, letters, pictures supporting documentations.
  • The more information the better!
  • You are encouraged to nominate your own business. You know your business better than anyone!

Three Judges will complete the Business Awards of Excellence judging.

  • Judges will judge independently of each other.
  • Judges chosen will reside outside of the Kensington & Area Chamber of Commerce jurisdiction.
  • Each of our judges will be required to have a strong business background. Experience in judging Business Awards events will be an asset.
  • Each person nominating a business is required to follow a criterion and to submit as much information as possible on the business or employee being nominating.
  • The judges are asked to judge solely on the information provided. Providing as much information as possible is essential for the Judges.
  • The judges will use a point system. A questionnaire for each nominee will be provided. The questionnaire provides six questions. Each question pertaining to the nominee shall be evaluated solely on the information provided by the nominator.
  • Four questions are to be evaluated from, 0 – 10
    10 being the highest.
    Two questions are to be evaluated from, 0 – 5
    5 being the highest.
    Final score out of 50. Fifty being the highest

The judges will individually submit their scores to the Chamber committee and the Chamber committee will tally up the scores.

In the case of a tie, the scores will be resubmitted and re-examined by the judges.
